The mandible is the largest and strongest of the fourteen facial bones. It is also the only bone in the skull which moves! It is made up of the body, the two rami, and the angle, where both rami meet the body. All of these provide areas for muscle attachment.
Each Ramus has a condylar process which articulates with the mandibular fossa of the skull. This is where the craniomandibular joint can be found in the diagram below!
The coronoid process provides another area of attachment for the muscles of mastication such as the temporalis.
