The bells in the belfry of the church of St. Nicholas in St. Nicholas, Switzerland, set off a snow avalanche that swept away the church, yet the bell tower itself was unharmed. The bell ringer was not even aware the church had disappeared until he descended from the adjacent tower (1749).
