Well, spring sprang. We've had our state of grace and our little gift of sanctioned madness, courtesy of Mother Nature. Thanks, Gaia. Much obliged. I guess it's time to get back to that daily routine of living we like to call normal. -- David Assael, Northern Exposure, Spring Break, 1991

One afternoon at Mt. Zion Hebrew School, Chaim Goldberg, the new instructor, finished the day's lesson. It was now time for the usual question and answer period.

"Mr. Goldberg," announced little Joel, "there's something I can't figure out."

"What's that Joel?" asked Goldberg, with a kindly smile.

"Well accordin' to the Scriptures, the Children of Israel crossed the Red Sea. Right?"

"Right."

"And the Children of Israel beat up the Philistines, right?"

"Of course right."

"And the Children of Israel built the Temple, right?"

"Again, you're right, Joel... Where is this going?"

"And the Children of Israel fought the Egyptians, and the Children of Israel fought the Romans, and the Children of Israel were always doin' somethin' important. Right?"

"All that is right, too," agreed Goldberg. "So, what's your question, already?"

"Well, what I really wanna know is this," demanded Joel. "While the children were doing all these wonderful things, where were all the grown-ups"?

My husband and I were going to visit a friend and when we got to her house we saw her cordless sitting on the trunk of her car. "Let's play a joke on Manda!" I told my husband, "We'll call her from her own front yard on her own phone!"

I thought I was brilliant. My husband must have thought so too because he was having quite the laugh at poor Manda's expense! So I called...and got a busy signal. I'm not too proud to admit I then looked at my husband and in all sincerity said, "She must be online." This remark finally drove him into hystericals. I swear Joe...it never once occured to me I couldn't call her phone number from her own phone! And no, I'm not a blonde!

No name on this one! Ha!

Trivia answer....

Pine, spruce, or other evergreen wood should never be used for barbequing. These woods, when burning or smoking, can add harmful tar and resins to the food. Only hardwoods should be used for smoking and grilling, such as oak, pecan, hickory, maple, cherry, alder, apple, or mesquite, depending on the type of meat being cooked.

Bet you didn't know March 1st is National Pig Day! Time to celebrate the wonder, beauty and flavor of our most favorite animal.

Most cuts of pork suitable for grilling, pan grilling or pan frying may be cooked on a barbeque.

Choose pork that is cut about 1.5cm to 2cm thick. Similarly sized cubes can be cooked on skewers.

Marinating pork or brushing the meat with basting mixtures while cooking adds extra flavour. Marinades should be cooked thoroughly or discarded.

Place pork on the preheated barbeque (medium heat) and cook until the meat feels firm when pressed with tongs and the pork juices are clear.

Turn the pork once during cooking. Avoid poking or turning the meat unnecessarily with a fork as this pierces the meat and releases juices, making the meat dry
