I Bet Ya Didn't Know: Roses:

Roses do not have thorns 'they have prickles'. A prickle is a growth on the outer side of the epidermis. Thorns are produced in the inner tissues of the stem.

Fossil specimens of the rose have been found in Montana, Colorado and Oregon, USA, which prove that the rose existed 35 million years ago.

It takes between 10000 to 15000 hand picked rose blooms to make 11g of rose oil. The value of rose oil in weight is 5 times more than the same weight in gold.

The World’s Largest Rose Bush is a White Lady Banksia in Tombstone Arizona. The original root came from Scotland in 1885. From a single trunk it has spread over an arbor that covers over 2000 square meters. Each spring it is covered with millions of tiny white blooms.

In 1455 the York family (represented by a white rose) and the Lancaster family (represented by a red rose) started the war of the roses in England. It is said that they stopped fighting when a rose bush that was half red and half white was found.

The rose is the official national floral emblem of the United States. This legislation was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on October 7, 1986. The rose is also the state flower of Georgia, Iowa, New York, North Dakota and the District of Columbia.

Things that make you go Hmmm....

The proud father brought home a backyard swing set for his children and immediately started to assemble it with all the neighborhood children anxiously waiting to play on it. After several hours of reading the directions, attempting to fit bolt A into slot B, etc., he finally gave up and called upon an old handyman working in a neighboring yard. The old-timer came over, threw the directions away, and in a short while had the set completely assembled. It's beyond me," said the father, "how you got it together without even reading instructions." "To tell the truth," replied the old-timer, "I can't read, and when you can't read, you've got to think."

A man was sprawled across three entire seats in a theater. When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the man, "Sorry sir, but you're only allowed one seat." The man groaned but didn't budge. The usher became impatient.

"Sir," the usher said, "If you don't get up from there, I'm going to have to call the manager."

Again, the man just groaned, which infuriated the usher who turned and marched briskly back up the aisle in search of his manager. In a few moments, both the usher and the manager returned and stood over the man. Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move him, but with no success. Finally, they summoned the police. The cop surveyed the situation briefly.

"All right, buddy. What's your name?"

"Sam," the man moaned.

"Where ya from, Sam?" the cop asked.

"The balcony."

The teacher was amazed. "I'm in awe at your faith, pastor," she said.

"It's really nothing," he answered. "The number is on a piece of tape on the ceiling."

The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by Qantas' pilots the solutions recorded by maintenance engineers. By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had an accident.

Have you heard that even staid old National Geographic has decided to go down Sports Illustrated and Maxim's well oiled road and feature a swimsuit issue?

Now, NG is saying they're concentrating more on the history of the bathing suit. They're showing a lot of pictures from their archives. I got a copy of the issue. Strictly for scientific and historical purposes, mind you. As I was looking through the issue, I noticed the difference between suit of "now" and suits of "then."

In the past, you had to open the suit to see the buttocks.

Now, you open the buttocks to see the suit.

Joke

Pierre, a brave French fighter pilot, takes his girlfriend, Marie, out for a pleasant little picnic by the River Seine. It's a beautiful day and love is in the air. Marie leans over to Pierre and says, "Pierre, kiss me!" Our hero grabs a bottle of Merlot and splashes it on Marie's lips."What are you doing, Pierre?" says the startled Marie.

"I am Pierre the fighter pilot! When I have red meat, I like to have red wine!"

She smiles and they start kissing.

When things began to heat up a little, Marie says, "Pierre, kiss me lower."

Our hero tears her blouse open, grabs a bottle of Chardonnay and starts pouring it all over her breasts.

"Pierre! What are you doing?" asks the bewildered Marie.

"I am Pierre the fighter pilot! When I have white meat, I like to have white wine!"

They resume their passionate interlude and things really steam up.

Marie leans close to his ear and whispers, "Pierre, kiss me lower!"

Our hero rips off her underwear, grabs a bottle of Cognac and pours it in her lap. He then strikes a match and lights it on fire. Marie shrieks and dives into the river.

Standing waist deep in the river, Marie throws her arms upwards and screams furiously, "PIERRE, WHAT IN THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?"

Our hero stands up, defiantly, and says, "I am Pierre the fighter pilot! When I go down, I go down in flames!"

Trivia answer....

The term "happy-go-lucky" has been in existence since 1665.

Love, all my love was yours,
Of this I was so sure,
I guess I never saw it coming baby,
But now I'm over the surprise,
I'm wearing this disguise,
So everyone can think I'm having fun baby,
The world only sees me smiling,
My pillow knows the truth at night,
'cause that's where I hide my sorrow,

And they call me happy go lucky,
They don't know my heart is dying inside,
A smile's a frown turned upside down,
I do my happy go lucky so well,
I'm even fooling myself

But now I've put it to the test,
I know it's for the best,
In fact it's good you walked out on me baby,
I, I've learned how to survive,
Without you in my life,
So why am I still talking 'bout you baby,
The world only sees me smiling,
My pillow knows the truth every night,
'Cause that's where I hide my sorrow,

And they call me happy go lucky,
They don't know my heart is dying inside,
A smile's a frown turned upside down,
I do my happy go lucky so well,
I'm even fooling myself

All my love yours,
I guess I was so sure,

When I see the morning light,
I put on this facade,
It's all I have to protect my pride,
It's all I've got, this smile is all I've got,

And they call me happy go lucky,
They don't know my heart is dying inside,
A smile's a frown turned upside down,
I do my happy go lucky so well,
I'm even fooling myself
