Joke#2,162

I'd been working on my business degree for about a year when I finally got to take a popular finance course. I went to the bookstore to buy the text and was shocked to find out that it would cost me $96.00. I asked how much it was worth if I sold it back at the end of the semester.

"You'll get 24.00," said the clerk.

"This is insane," I protested as I wrote out the check.

"I know," replied the clerk sympathetically. "I've always thought that a person who buys a book for $96.00 and then sells it back for $24.00 should fail the course."

Donald Ogden Stewart, the writer, had a son away at prep school. When the boy reached the age of fourteen, Stewart wrote him the following letter:

Joke#2,166

The software engineering field is staffed primarily by men; the ratio of male to female software engineers is about 15 to 1. This makes it pretty easy for women to find potential mates among their peers. However, software types have a well-earned reputation for being. . . well, a little strange.

While discussing the prospect of working in the software industry, one woman commented to another, "The odds are good, but the goods are odd."

Joke#2,167

I was out walking with my then 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I asked her not to do that.

"Why?"

"Because it's been laying outside and is dirty and probably has germs."

At this point, she looked at me with total admiration and asked, "Wow! How do you know all this stuff?"

"Uh," I was thinking quickly," everyone knows this stuff. Um, it's on the Mommy test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mommy."

"Oh."

We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information.

"I get it!" she beamed. "Then if you flunk, you have to be the Daddy."

Joke#2,168

I was at the drugstore and noticed a young male cashier staring at the pretty girl in front of me. Her total came to $16.42, and after handing over a $100 bill, she waited for change.

"Here you go," said the cashier, smiling as he returned the proper amount. "Have a great day!"

Now I placed my items on the counter. The tally was $32.79, and I too gave the cashier a $100 bill.

"I'm sorry, Ma'am. We can't accept anything larger than a fifty," he told me, pointing to a sign stating store policy.

"But you just accepted that last girl's hundred," I reasoned.

"I had to," he said. "It had her phone number on it."

"You've got to be kidding," Felix replied in astonishment. "People actually call the fire department to help them with rattlesnakes? What do you say to them?"

"Well," said the chief, "the first thing I ask is, 'Is it on fire?'"

Joke#2,172

On a military training exercise, the British divisional command radio operators were getting very bored one quiet night, when breaking the silence a voice asked over the air... "Are there any friendly bears listening?"

After a moment, another voice replied... "Yes, I'm a friendly bear," and then another voice...

"I'm a friendly bear too!"

At this point, the Officer at Headquarters grabbed his microphone and let loose a blistering tirade at the operators for fooling around on an important radio link. When he had finished, there was silence for about ten seconds.

Then a small voice said, "You're not a very friendly bear, are you?"

Joke#2,173

Once a month, down in the "trendy" area of Columbus, the art galleries open up in the evening and encourage folks to visit the showings.
My wife and I went there once. Only once. You see, we went into the very first place and spied this huge canvas with black and yellow blobs of paint all over it. The next painting, by the same artist, was a murky grey color with drips of purple paint and green splotches throughout.

My wife walked over to the artist and, in her cute southern drawl, said, "I don't understand your paintings."

The artist sniffed and said, "I paint what I feel inside me."

She shot back, "You ever tried Alka-Seltzer?"

"What do you mean it is my job to fix coffee in the mornings? We are married and it is the wife's job to fix coffee in the mornings."

"No way, Jose," she replied. "It says in the Bible is the man's job to fix coffee in the mornings. and we are going to do as the Bible says."

"Now wait just a doggone minute. I know a lot about the Bible and I never read it is the man's job to fix coffee in the mornings. Now tell me where you read that."

Joke#2,178

A woman was waiting in the check-out line at a shopping center. Her arms were laden with a mop and broom and other cleaning supplies. By her actions and deep sighs, it was obvious she was in an extreme hurry, and was not happy about the slowness of the line.

The woman said, "That would be okay," and for her first wish, she wanted to be the most beautiful woman in the world.

The frog warned her, "You do realize that this wish will also make your husband the most handsome man in the world, an Adonis, that women will flock to."

The woman replied, "That will be okay because I will be the most beautiful woman and he will only have eyes for me."

Joke#2,187

Dear Friend: Just a line to say I'm living...
That I'm not among the dead,
Though I'm getting more forgetful
And mixed up in the head.
I got used to my arthritis,
To my dentures I'm resigned,
I can manage my bifocals,
But Lord... how I miss my mind!!!
Sometimes I can't remember
When I stand at the foot of the stairs.
If I must go up for something...
Or if I've just come down from there,
I stand before the fridge at times,
My poor mind filled with doubt,
Have I come to put food away,
Or come to take some out?
There are times when it is dark out,
And with my nightcap on my head,
I don't know if I'm retiring...
Or just getting out of bed.
So if it's my turn to write you,
There's no need for getting sore,
I may think that I have written
And don't want to be a bore.
I do know that I miss you
And wish that you were near.
And now it's nearly mail time
So I must say goodbye, my dear.
Now I'm standing beside the mail box
With a face so red,
Instead of mailing you my letter ...
I have opened it instead!!!
